Pan-gyo Residence:

Korea’s First Residence Finished with HI-MACS® Façade

The snow-white walls are curved like flowing waves and square-shaped holes are punctured on top. Pan-gyo Residence is a house where acrylic solid surface was used for its façade for the first time in Korea, breaking away from people’s traditional notion of the shape of houses. The Pan-gyo Residence is located in the Pan-gyo detached housing complex where luxurious single-unit houses are concentrated. It has become one of the most distinctive houses in this village that already resembles a competition site for famous architects. This house was designed by Kokiwoong Office and fabricated by Daemyung ATM.

When designing this house, architect Ko presented a choice of three materials – wood, bricks and acrylic solid surface – to the owner for the façade of the house. The owner chose HI-MACS® to build an individualistic house distinguished from other houses. Architect Ko explained: “HI-MACS® is one of the materials that has interested me since a few years ago. As I believe that HI-MACS® is the most durable among materials with good mouldability, I strongly recommended HI-MACS® for the material for the façade of Pan-gyo Residence.”

Thanks to HI-MACS®’ outstanding mouldability, application of new designs was made possible, such as the window gently protruding in the shape of curve and a square-shaped hole on the top. Architect Ko explained the design concept of this house by saying that “I wanted to spatialize living space envisioned by the family and naturally connect the living spaces with outdoor spaces.”

As for the HI-MACS® façade cladding method, several methods were under consideration and a conventional method applied to stone cladding was adopted. Joints between HI-MACS® panels were finished with open joints without caulking HI-MACS®.

Besides façade application, HI-MACS® was also used for interior design. The classy interior exudes charm and elegance and is finished with the highest quality materials: natural wood and HI-MACS® Solid Surface. Interior wall cladding, handrail of staircase and tv-cabinet are in HI-MACS® Alpine White.
